What is Oktoberfest?
Oktoberfest is a famous German festival where people are invited to eat, drink, and be merry. The three-week long celebration traditionally includes huge quantities of flowing beer, rides, attractions, and oompah bands.
Although it's called "Oktoberfest", the huge festival starts from mid-September until the beginning of October due to the warm weather.
The first Oktoberfest took place in October 12th, 1810 in honour of the Bavarian Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. It began with a horse race and continued on for five days as citizens and guests celebrated the union.
Since then, it became of the biggest events in the world, drawing hundreds of thousands of attendees each year. It has inspired similar events outside of Germany, with Dubai celebrating its own Oktoberfest festivities in popular expat sites such as the Irish Village.
