RTA bans e-scooters in Dubai Metro and Dubai Trams

The new rule is effective from Friday.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that electronic scooters will be banned on the Dubai Metro and Tram starting March 1st, 2024.

The news was shared on RTA's official X account (formerly Twitter) on Thursday evening.

According to the tweet, the ban on e-scooters was implemented for the safety of passengers and staff. Riders who carry their e-scooters onto the metro and trams for their commute must make alternative arrangements and routes.

There has been no confirmation yet if e-scooters will be banned from Dubai public buses as well.

The news comes after a new Dubai Metro train route was revealed. The Blue Line project, which will commence in 2024, is set to be 30km long with more than half of its train line being underground, confirmed RTA officials.

The official completion date of the Dubai Metro Blue Line is yet to be announced.

Earlier this year, RTA also issued new changes to the Nol card, increasing the minimum top-up fare to AED 20, compared to the previous AED 5.
