If you've just graduated college in the UAE or landed your first job in the country, chances are you will need to get your degree or certificates attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
Previously, if you needed to get your documents attested in the UAE, you had to visit any of the MOFA centres in person.
These days the process is a lot more convenient thanks to the ministry's online services. Here is a handy step-by-step guide on how to get your university or college diplomas, degrees, or certificates attested in the UAE online.
Why are documents required to be attested in the UAE?
Attestation is required for some documents to confirm the validity of the seal and signature on them, whether it's documents issued in the UAE or outside of the country.
MOFA offers document attestation services for individuals and businesses in the UAE online, via embassies, and consulates abroad.
Where to get documents attested online in the UAE
Whether it's your Bachelor's degree, college diploma, or a professional certificate, you can get your documents attested online in the UAE in just a few quick steps.
- Visit the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs official website.
- Under the 'Services' tab, select 'Services for Individuals' and choose 'Documents Attestation'. Alternatively, you can find the option for 'Documents Attestation' listed under 'All Services'.
- Once you're in the Documents Attestation page, click 'Start Service' and login with your UAE Pass.
- Fill in the form with accurate and up-to-date information.
- Pay the online fee and wait for the courier service.
Can I upload my documents to the online form?
No, after filling in and submitting the form, an original copy must be sent to MOFA officials by courier to complete the document attestation process.
What types of documents are accepted for attestation?
MOFA accepts English, Arabic, or officially translated copies of the original document or a document with a QR code
Avoid laminating your documents, as laminated documents cannot be attested and will be rejected.
Ensure that your document has already been attested by the relevant authorities before you submit it to MOFA.
How much is the fee to get documents attested?
For individuals, the service fee is AED 150 for personal documents (for example: college degrees, professional diplomas, birth certificates, marriage certificates).
If the documents are for business and other commercial purposes, the attestation service fee is AED 2,000.
How long does it take to get documents attested in the UAE?
If your certificate was issued abroad, it usually depends on how long it takes for the issuing country to attest the documents first. If your diploma was issued in the UAE, the timeline is typically shorter.
As per the official MOFA website, the documents and certificates attestation process takes around 1-3 business days.
What documents are accepted to be attested?
MOFA accepts the following personal affairs documents and certificates for attestation:
- Birth certificates.
- Death certicilates.
- Educational documents (university degrees, college diplomas). Note: Transcripts are considered as a different document - these are not counted as diplomas.
- Marriage certificates.
- Personal medical reports.
- Good conduct certificate.
- Bank statements.
- Employment offer.
- Work contract.
- Personal tax certificate.
- Any court-issued certificates.
- Power of attorney of personal nature.
- To Whom It May Concern letters.

What are the pre-requisites for documents issued within the UAE?
If an official document was issued locally in the UAE, then it must be attested by the appropriate governing entity first. For educational degrees and diplomas, you'll need to get it attested by the UAE Ministry of Education (MOE).
Once it's been attested by the relevant authority, you can submit the original copy to MOFA for document attestation.
What are the pre-requisites for documents issued abroad?
For educational certificates issued outside of the UAE, you will need the original document, which must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country.
Example: If your Bachelor's degree was issued from a university in Australia, you will first need to get your diploma attested by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Once the original diploma has been attested, only then can you submit it for document attestation in the UAE through MOFA.
