UAE Ramadan 2024 confirmed work timings for private sector employees

Do you work in the private sector? Here's what you need to know.

If you work in the private sector, you are entitled to reduced work timings this Ramadan, confirmed the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). This applies to all non-government workers whether they are Muslim or not.

During Ramadan, private sector employers are required to reduce their staff's timings by two hours.

The news regarding the reduced Ramadan work hours for 2024 was announced on MoHRE's official X page (formerly Twitter).

"The Ministry announces a reduction of 2 working hours per day for private sector employees during the Holy Month of Ramadan," the tweet read.

In accordance with the requirements and nature of their work, companies may apply flexible or remote work patterns within the limits of the daily working hours during Ramadan, said officials.

Following shortly after, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources also released an announcement for the public sector's Ramadan work timings.

This year, the Holy Month is expected to begin from Monday March 11th and will run for either 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon sighting.

However, the official start date for Ramadan 2024 will be announced by the UAE's moon sighting committee closer to the date. We are expecting the confirmation this weekend.

Not getting reduced hours? How to report the company to UAE officials

If you are a private sector worker and your employer has not reduced your work timings for Ramadan this year, you can file a complaint through MoHRE.

Private sector employees seeking to file a labour complaint or need legal advice, can contact the Labour Claims and Advisor Centre on 80084.
