Public sector workers in the UAE can get shorter work hours on first day of school

Most school students in the UAE will return to the classrooms from Monday August 28th.

To help working parents get ready for the first day of school in the UAE, authorities have set up flexible work hours for public sector employees on Monday August 28th when most students will be returning to schools.

Under the 'Back to School' policy, employees working for UAE federal departments, ministries, and semi-public offices can work shorter hours next week to drop off their kids on the first day of the academic year.

According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR), employees can arrive to work at a later timing and finish early as well.

This applies to all UAE public sector employees who have children enrolled in nurseries, kindergartens, early learning centres, and schools at any of the seven emirates.

"The 'Back to School' policy also allows for flexible working arrangements during other occasions and circumstances related to the school year, as long as it doesn't disrupt the workflow in the entity and is in accordance with the Federal Government's Human Resources Law and its executive regulations," said the authority, according to state news agency Wam.

Public sector employees can up to three hours' leave for school related events such as parent-teacher meetings, graduation days, and other special school occasions.
