The initiative is the country's largest community campaign in history.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Dubai Ruler, has announced the launch of a campaign that aims to provide 10 million meals to those in need.

Led by his wife, Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum, the community campaign will be the country's biggest, and will provide meals or food parcels to support people and their families during the Holy Month.

"Today, we launched a humanitarian campaign to provide 10 million meals or food parcels to communities affected by the coronavirus outbreak in the UAE", he shared on Twitter.

"Providing food for everyone, with the approach of the Holy Month of Ramadan, is a social priority in our battle against the pandemic."

It is the nation's biggest food distribution drive, and will help those who have been left unemployed or have have had salary cuts because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"In the UAE, no one sleeps hungry or in need. No one is left", HH Sheikh Mohammed added.

Launched in collaboration with the Social Solidarity Fund Against Covid-19, the campaign will enable businesses, charitable organisations, philanthropists, and the general public to make financial contributions towards providing meals throughout Ramadan.

Donors can contribute as little as 8 Dhs from their own homes, which will go towards donating food items and parcels directly to families and individuals in need.

Besides the goal of providing moral and financial support for those affected by coronavirus, the "10 million meals" initiative aims to strength the values of giving, harmony, and coexistence during the current exceptional circumstances.

The campaign also aims to foster the values of generosity and benevolence widely practice during the Holy Month of Ramadan, and is a great way for both Muslims and non-Muslims in Dubai to partake in the spirit of Ramadan.
