London's Black Cabs Are Coming to Dubai

The black cabs will be available at Dubai International Airport for a trial period.

Every city has its icons – for Dubai, it's the Burj Khalifa, man-made islands and the Burj Al Arab. This year, another great city's icons will be joining Dubai's.

During a visit to the Dubai Taxi Corporation, Mattar Al Tayer the Director-General of the RTA announced that a fleet of eye-catching, London-style black cabs will be rolled out on the streets of the Emirate.

While the vehicles will keep the same black "semi-curved shape" known from the famous London taxi service, Dubai's new range will be eco-friendly hybrid cars. The taxis will use electricity and fuel to run, accelerated braking systems and batteries that require just 30 minutes to recharge .

In addition, Dubai's new version of the black cabs will feature spacious interiors, with room for six passengers in a separate cabin from the taxi driver, intended to meet the needs of people of determination.

The modern black cabs will also be fitted with their own satellite navigation system, voice command, forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning technology and Wi-Fi.

What are the London black cabs?

The black cabs are London's official taxi service, which can be hailed while on the street, booked by phone, or grabbed at designated places such the city's train and bus stations.

Much like the taxis we're familiar with in Dubai, a sign at the top of the vehicle will show if the taxi is available for hire. In London, black cabs are known for being disability-friendly due to its wheelchair accessibility and can carry assistance dogs.
