One of the most spiritual months of the year for millions of Muslims around the world, the Holy Month of Ramadan is fast approaching for 2024.

During this time, practicising Muslims will be refraining from eating or drinking anything from dawn until sunset. It is also not allowed for non-Muslim UAE residents and visitors to eat and drink in public except at restaurants, cafes, food courts, office break rooms, and other dining areas.

This year, Ramadan in the UAE is likely to be observed during the tail-end of the country's winter season, and here's what you need to know as the emirates gets ready to welcome Ramadan 2024.

What is Ramadan?

The holy month of Ramadan marks the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

It is a religious practice month where Muslims partake in prayer, fasting, charity, and community. From dawn until sunset, it is forbidden for Muslims eat or drink anything, however some leeway is granted to pregnant women, young children, and those with chronic diseases.

When is Ramadan 2024 in the Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the UAE?

Muslims can only eat during iftar, the fast-breaking meal taken after sunset, and during suhoor before the sun rises.

Ramadan 2024 is expected begin across the UAE and around the world on March, with Muslims expecting to prepare for their first day of fasting on a Monday.

During the Holy Month, work timings in the UAE are shorter and some restaurants may be closed during the day until it's almost iftar.

What comes after Ramadan?

Once Ramadan passes, Eid Al Fitr follows after to mark the end of the Holy Month of fasting, charity, community, and prayer.

In the UAE, Eid Al Fitr is celebrated with a public holiday. This year, the Eid Al Fitr 2024 public holidays have been predicted to run from Monday April 8 to Friday April 11.
