Here's everything to know about our royal guest's visit to Dubai.

Although King Charles III has been visiting the emirates since 1989, with his most recent official visit in 2016 for a royal tour with Camilla, Queen Consort - this year will be his first official trip to the UAE since he was crowned king.

Why is King Charles III visiting Dubai?

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan invited Britain's monarch to attend the world climate action summit, COP28, reported The National. King Charles will be giving a welcome address to other world leaders at the summit's opening ceremony on Friday, December 1st, 2023.

Why is British King Charles III coming to Dubai?

The British royal will also be attending a reception to launch the inaugural COP28 Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum, on behalf of the UK government.

"While in the UAE, the king will take the opportunity to have meetings with regional leaders, ahead of COP28," mentioned an official statement from Buckingham Palace.

What is COP?

Conference of the Parties, or COP, is an annual summit where different countries' leaders gather to discuss the world's most pressing climate issues, and work on global climate solutions.

COP28 is the 28th edition of the conference and will be held in Dubai. For this year's summit, world leaders will be aiming to negotiate on an increase in renewable energy, and work on the gaps from The Paris Agreement in COP21 (2015).

King Charles previously attended COP26 in Glasgow, where he delivered an opening speech. He also attended COP21 which was held in Paris, but was unable to attend COP27 in Egypt.
