Mega Theme Park Will Be Built in Oman

A new entertainment and leisure theme park will be built this year in the Barka province. The park, which is being built by the Muscat National Development Company (ASAAS), will spread over 1.5 million square metres.

The mega-project will include an equestrian centre, an edutainment centre, a theme park, a wildlife park, a water park, hotels, retail areas and a residential zone. It will offer both educational and lifestyle services for adults and children alike. This will include an Interactive Science and Technology Edutainment Centre, focused on innovative and inspirational learning.

The Equestrian Centre is expected to be the main centre for the country’s equestrian sports, including a riding academy, show jumping and livery facilities.

The project will be located in a high-profile destination, stretching one kilometre on the beach front. The theme-park and wildlife park will be operated by a renowned American company from Florida. One of Asia’s largest urban and infrastructure development consultants, Surbana Jurong, is the project’s master planner.

This entertainment and leisure destination is part of Oman’s efforts to diversify the economy, attract investments, stimulate enterprises and create more job opportunities. Barka was strategically chosen as it’s a family-oriented destination and a great place to take advantage of the beautiful natural landscape.

This project is only one of many to come. ASAAS has plans to increase economic returns by creating multiple sustainable projects that will enhance life in Oman. They will be going forth with a variety of projects over the next five to 10 years, worth about OMR1 billion. Other projects ASAAS already took on include the creation of Oman’s first budget airline, SalamAir, and the Hilton Garden Inn.

Over in Salalah, there is a waterpark currently being constructed as well. It will be located near to the Attin Recreation area, where the Salalah Festival is held annually.  It will include six types of water rides, restaurants, vast green areas, a five-star hotel and a shopping mall with 218 retail stores.

Oman’s Ministry of Tourism is determined to increase entertainment and leisure facilities in the country.
