I don't often post to disagree with other posters but a Paed is such a personal thing that you have to form your own opinion and try several before you find one you're happy with. I've used Dr Syed Ahmed at City and finally stopped as I got fed up with the constant 'Googling' of symptoms, even the relatively minor ones. I appreciate a Dr may not know what the cause of a rash is but we went back to him five times over a period of 4 months and every time we left with him not having a clue but trying a different medication anyway as that was what his Google searches suggested. I've also been to Dr Shola at Dubai London Clinic. I only ever went once and refused to go back as she slated me for Baby Led Weaning and told me that I should practically force feed my DS who wasn't interested in any pureed baby food. Her bedside manner was not great. After many other epic failures over the past two years I finally stumbled across Dr Anwar Mousa at Dubai London Clinic. I went to see him as both DS's had coughs that sounded horrific. Turned out the elder had bronchitis and the younger one had croup. He listened to everything I said about their sypmtoms, listened to their chests more than once and for quite some time then proceeded to draw me a diagram explaining the difference between the two illnesses. We went down the route of a nebuliser for both of them. He gave me detailed directions for doses and then gave me his number and told me to call him on his mobile should I hear either cough getting worse as he would reassess the dosage of each medication. He then asked me to come back in 3 days for a follow up which was also very thorough. Like I said, finding a paed is something very personal and this is just my two fils worth. Good luck in your search and I hope DS gets better soon.

Change his pillow and put a humidifier next to his bed.

Hi AusJor Your son's feet might just be getting cold at night. Put some Vicks or Vaseline on the soles of his feet and let him wear socks to sleep. He should stop coughing at night. Also make sure he doesn't have anything oily before he sleeps, and cut down on dairy after 2pm (maybe give him milk late afternoon rather than before bedtime). It will reduce any chance of reflux. Now about the doctor you want to see, I didn't have a great experience with Dr Fadil. Took DD when she had a chesty cough (she'd had issues with this the year before and it was really bad with wheezing, etc). Dr. Fadil asked for an x-ray after listening to her chest for what seemed like 30sec. I objected but he made a big deal about her chest being really bad and he needs to know whether she needs to be treated at the hospital with inhalers and whatever or if he could send her home. She had the x-ray (I wasn't happy!) and it came back spotless - her chest was clear. When we went back in to see him, I spotted the prescription printed out and ready for signature with the usual meds (inhaler, etc), although he opened the x-ray on his pc and said that he hadn't seen it yet! He confirmed she was ok and went on about the medication to administer. Her usual doc listens to her chest for 5 mins and maps out which areas of her lungs are clear and which ones aren't, so he can compare when I go back to see him a few days later. Too bad he was on holiday at the time. ETA I take my kids to Dr. Syed Ahmed at City and before that to Dr. Ejaz Wasseem at Northwest Clinic (he's too far from us now). Both amazing. edited by DubaiMaman on 13/09/2012

My daughter is registered with Dr Shola at Dubai London Clinic. We are really happy with her. My daughter had a bad cough in the evenings for months and we ended up with an inhalor for bedtime and that seemed to help a lot!

Hey everyone! I could use some help. My two year old son has had an issue with coughing at night for almost four months now. He barely coughs during the day, and i mean very rarely. But at night, he just coughs and coughs and coughs until he throws up. I've taken him to doctors and they've chalked it up to allergies and prescribed children's Zyrtec. I'm losing a lot of sleep! I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and may have some good advice to either let me know what it may be or how to help it. I also made an appointment to see Dr. Fadil Y Anad (Al-Najjar) at City hospital (Asthma specialist/ allergist) Paed. Any recommendation? TIA I appreciate your time and responses!
