Saudi residents can look forward to watching the World Boxing Super Series super-middleweight final live in Jeddah on September 28th, 2018!

In the final, George Groves will be defending his third WBA title from Callum Smith. This will be Smith’s first world title fight and he hopes to become the second of four boxing brothers to win a world title. The boxing final will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City and the winner will walk away with the Muhammad Ali trophy.

Groves suffered an injury earlier this year which caused the final to be postponed. Originally organisers didn’t want to postpone the event but eventually realised this is a match that the fans want to see. In a comment, Kalle Sauerland, Comosa’s Chief Boxing Officer said: “Groves vs Smith is an incredible match-up between two proved gladiators, two rivals, it’s certainly a final not to be missed!”

Groves told reporters: “I’m incredibly excited that the fight has been formally confirmed to take place in Jeddah. I’m excited and sure this final will eclipse every WBSS fight to date for excitement and drama. I have been in camp for a while already but am now looking forward to stepping the training up now that the date’s been set.”

Smith is also excited that the event will take place in Saudi Arabia. Smith told reporters: “I am excited to be part of such a big night of boxing. It began with the red carpet treatment (at the competition draw) in Monaco and will end with more of the same in Jeddah.”
