The decision was made in recognition of King Salman's achievements and diplomatic ties between the two countries

Previously called Al Marsa Street, the popular road leading to Marina Mall near the Abu Dhabi Corniche has been renamed after King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The unveiling of the renamed road was inaugurated by Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, on September 23. The occasion coincided with KSA's 89th National Day.

The ceremony featured a military band which played the UAE and Saudi Arabia national anthem, with Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed, member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, present.

"Having this street in front of the Founder's Memorial is remarkable and this is a gift that the people of the UAE have presented to their family in Saudi Arabia," said Turki Al Dakhil, the Saudi ambassador to the UAE.

He added that the UAE has been celebrating Saudi National Day as if it was their own event, mentioning that many Saudis come to the UAE for their holidays and don't see a different between the celebrations of the two countries. Al Dakhil said that the UAE's support demonstrates how deeply the two nations are unified in spirit.

So if you ever find yourself commuting in the direction of Abu Dhabi Marina Mall, it's worth remembering that the street has been given a brand new name.
