Why you should always travel with an e-sim

Never travel without this one thing on your phone!

Drop the hassle of using slow public Wi-Fi and dealing with expensive roaming bills. A travel electronic sim card or a eSIM is a digital mobile plan that allows you to make calls, messages, and internet data so you can travel globally without a hitch.

I recently used a travel eSIM in Japan, and I wouldn't have had such a stress-free trip exploring the sights and managing the language barrier without it. It made tasks such as navigating the subway routes and using a translator app so much easier!

Here are 5 reasons why you should get an eSIM for your next trip.

1. eSIMS are cost effective

You wouldn't want your lovely trip abroad ruined by an eye-wateringly huge roaming bill.

Offering local network services at a lower cost compared to international roaming charges, eSIMS lets you make calls, send and receive messages, and use internet data while saving your dirhams.

2. You don't need to buy a local SIM card or change your phone number

Installing an eSIM is very easy and can be done with just a few taps on your phone. You won't have to purchase a local physical SIM card, nor do you have to change your current phone number.

eSIMS can be activated a few hours before your trip so you can instantly use it when you arrive at your destination.

Always check first if your phone is eSIMS compatible.

We do recommended checking first if your phone is compatible with eSIMS. For iPhone users, please go to the Settings app > click on Cellular > under SIMS, you should have the option to "Add eSIM". If not, your Apple device is not compatible with eSIMS.

For Android users, go to the Settings app > click on About > Check the Status info. If your Android device is eSIM compatible, it will display the EID field (eSIM unique identification number). If you don't have the EID field available, then your phone is not eSIM compatible.

3. Stay connected throughout your trip

You won't have to wait until you find public Wi-Fi. When you arrive at your destination, simply turn on your travel eSIM so you can stay connected with your own internet data plan, or make calls and send messages.

Lost in an unfamiliar neighbourhood or struggling to navigate local public transport? You can use your eSIM to connect to the internet and find your way.

4. A sustainable option

Since eSIMS are digital, it makes for a more sustainable option for eco-conscious travellers, compared to a physical SIM card that results in plastic waste.

5. Less security risks

Public Wi-Fis are known to be a less secure option, as you run the risk of exposing your phone and sensitive information to hackers and other cyber security threats.

We don't recommend sending emails, doing online banking, or other important, private tasks on a public Wi-Fi connection, when eSIMS are a safer bet.
