5 helpful tips when applying for an international visa from Dubai

Applying for an overseas travel visa while you're in Dubai? Read these handy tips!

2022 has been an exceptional year for travel, with the demand for international sojourns soaring well beyond the traditional peak seasons we see every year.

For many expats in Dubai, visas are the first step towards overseas travel. Citizens of select countries are required to apply for a visit visa beforehand,

VFS Global, a visa, passport, and consular service centre in Dubai, shared with us some top tips for a seamless and safe visa application experience ahead of your next holiday, business trip, or studies abroad.

1.) Plan early

Most countries accept visa applications up to 90 days before your intended date of travel. Bear in mind, governments are still processing both pending and new visa applications, so it's best to plan your trip early and apply well in advance to avoid any inconveniences.

2.) Check the visa turnaround times

Each country has a different timeline for its visa processing, and these timelines are clearly mentioned on their websites, providing you the information required to apply for your visa well in advance.

During peak travel seasons like the year-end holidays, visa processing can take longer than anticipated. Apply early to avoid any delays.

3.) Book your appointment

Most embassies, consulates, and visa application centres in Dubai only allow appointments rather than walk-ins, as this reduces waiting times and physical distancing at the centres.

We highly recommend you book your visa application appointment first, and reach the centre at least 15 minutes before the appointed time to avoid missing your slot. Oftentimes other applicants may take up less time during their appointment, and your slot may come sooner than you'd think.

4.) Always check your travel documents list

Applying for an international travel visa will require a checklist of documentation. This list varies for each country, so best ensure you carry all the requisite documentation to submit along with the filled application form.

Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. We recommend checking your passport's expiry date while planning your trip abroad.

5.) Don't be afraid to opt for guidance

Visa application centres in Dubai tend to offer end-to-end assistance to guide you through the visa application submission process, from your documentations and application form to your biometrics and passport courier.

It's important to note though that opting for these services does not influence the outcome of your visa application, as this the final result of your travel visa application is at the sole discretion of the country's Embassy/Consulate.
