Wedding inspiration can come from anywhere — but the coolest ones are from your beloved fictional characters and places. For TV show addicts, wedding planning inspired by your all-time favourite show combines the best of both worlds!

If you think about it, every famous series includes some bridal drama, wedding shenanigans and marital chaos that closely relates to our personal lives. From Khaleesi’s savage Dothraki wedding to Phoebe Buffay’s snow-struck roadside wedding – here’s how to plan a wedding inspired by 5 hit TV shows:

1. Game of Thrones

We’re talking about making it a feast fit for King’s Landing. Choose your venue according to your loyal house — it could be Dothraki's hut-style settings, a Winterfell-like castle or a royal set up like that of the Purple Wedding in Westeros.

The bride and groom should ideally choose their characters from the main cast and the rest of the family can pick other roles. For the menu, go for a royal feast with pigeon pies, turkey legs and don’t forget the iron throne cake. Create the right ambience through clever use of lighting with fire baskets, fire torches and lanterns. Use lots of gothic-style metal for thrones and chairs, draped with furs or fabrics and large floor standing vases and candelabra.

2. Friends

This is the one with where you get to marry your lobster. Copy Rachel's iconic wedding dress and tiara for your D-day. And of course, your food inspirations should come from Monica's countless dishes including the turkey sandwiches and mac and cheese. Set up a Central Perk coffee corner with the iconic red sofa. And how about a karaoke of Pheobe's Smelly Cat?

Remember: little details make all the difference so try to incorporate as many elements from the show as you can — the purple mirror, a chalkboard menu, Pheobe's cookies, a photo booth with Rachel's cheerleader and Halloween costumes, props and what not!

3. Breaking Bad

Considering the depressing nature of the show - this one might be hard to pull off but hey, a Heisenberg fan never gives up.

Go for an all-out chemistry lab theme wedding with a periodic table, a lab and even the yellow lab costumes. Replace the drug element with blue and white crystals. How about using the RC van as your wedding album backdrop like this couple did?

4. Star Trek

Star Trek created its own subculture that Trekkies can incorporate into their weddings. From outer space slogans and Enterprise Ships — use as many references as you can to wow your guests. Create your own table postcards with catchy one-liners. Your wedding theme, wedding menu and even your wedding vows should reflect galactical elements and TNG-themed items.

5. Downton Abbey

Although this theme might be the easiest to pull off, we believe it would be the costliest too. Even the grandest occasions at the Downton Abbey have a sophistication and an understated elegance about them that's hard to achieve if you're on a tight budget.

Pick a vintage stateroom with high ceilings, elegant mouldings and a tall structure as a wedding venue. Fill the place with English countryside roses. Muted colours with shades of white, ivory, peach and green create a feminine look.

And who better to inspire you for the 1920s themed wedding gown than Lady Mary Crawley? Choose a white lace, high-waisted gown. Your wedding menu should be a 4-6 course affair with delectable items including caviar, salads and of course, a white frosting wedding cake.
