Diwali, the festival of lights and one of India’s biggest holidays of the year, will take place this year on Monday, October 24, 2022. And Diwali in Dubai will be back with a bang!

Indian expats and other UAE residents are gearing up to celebrate the annual festival of lights through a number of Diwali events across the country, and here's what you can expect!

How is Diwali celebrated?

Mostly celebrated by those under the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths, the Diwali festival celebrates the triumph of light over dark, good over evil, enlightenment, and victory.

It is also celebrated as a national holiday throughout India, Singapore, and other South Asian countries.

Celebrating Diwali traditionally involves lighting lots of candles and diyas (clay lamps) and placing these around their homes.

Where to watch the Diwali 2022 fireworks in Dubai?

Dubai Festival City Mall

Expect a spectacular Diwali fireworks show at Dubai Festival City on October 23 at 8:30PM. There will also watch a special water and light show at the shopping mall's bay area.

Global Village

Global Village will be opening its new season with loads of Diwali-themed events, including Bollywood-themed shows, cultural dances, performances, and fireworks, said Mohammed Feras, Director, Retail Registration at Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE).

He also added: "There are a variety of Diwali markets and bazaars that will be taking place across the emirate."

Diwali Bazaar at Burjuman Centre

Taking place until October 30, Burjuman Centre is hosting a variety of activities for Diwali 2022 in Dubai, including a pop-up bazaar for Diwali shopping, food stalls, henna painting, children's activities, rangoli making, live entertainment, and more!

Diwali Dhamaka Festival in Dubai

From October 22-23 (4pm until midnight), Diwali Dhamaka festival will bring a cultural food truck festival to Souq al Marfa, Dubai Islands. There will be loads of exciting activities, shopping opportunities, and entertainment for all ages at this family-friendly Diwali event.

The two-day event will include folk dances, live music and artist performances, cultural performances, and a kids' play area for the little ones.

The Waterfront Market’s Diwali Festival

The Waterfront Market is another great spot to celebrate Diwali in Dubai this year. Taking place from October 15-24 until midnight, there's heaps of family-friendly festive and cultural activities, such as diya painting, Bollywood-inspired dancing, live cooking stations, food kiosks, henna artists, and Diwali workshops for children.

List of Diwali 2022 festivals and events in Dubai

Expo City Dubai

Visit the Expo 2020 Dubai legacy site this Diwali 2022 for a remarkable line-up of celebrations. Al Wasl Dome will light up on October 22 to 23 with special projection shows for Diwali.

The first show on October 22 will take place from 7:45pm to 8pm, with another show from 9:12pm to 9:30pm.

On Sunday, Al Wasl Dome will light up for Diwali from 6:30pm to 6:45pm, with the last show from 7:40pm to 7:55pm.

The Diwali light shows at Expo City Dubai will be free to watch.

Dubai Festival City Mall

In addition to the Diwali fireworks, visitors and shoppers can also enjoy some Diwali celebrations from rangoli and children's painting workshops to cultural music and dancing.
