The Best and Worst Countries for Expats 2022 - According to Expats

There's a lot to consider before moving abroad for work.

Living and working in a new place isn't always easy, much less if it's a new country and it's your first time as an expatriate.

To help guide you on what it's like to live and work abroad, InterNations conducted a survey on the best and worst countries for expats in 2022, rating 52 countries in total. Over 12,000 expats participated, evaluating life abroad in the respective countries they reside in.

The new survey took into account expats' satisfaction with their quality of life, personal finance, ease of settling in, and working abroad in the foreign country they're residing in. The survey also includes other categories, such as local housing, language, and digital life.

Best places for expats in 2022

Out of 52 countries in the new survey, the top 10 countries for expat life in 2022 are:

  2. Indonesia
  3. Taiwan
  4. Portugal
  5. Spain
  6. The United Arab Emirates
  7. Vietnam
  8. Thailand
  9. Australia
  10. Singapore

Worst places for expats in 2022

The following countries have been rated by expats as the worst countries to live and work in as a foreigner. Kuwait ranked the lowest among 52 listed countries, followed by New Zealand and Hong Kong.
