Al Noor Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities

Since 1981, Al Noor Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities has helped individuals with special needs in the emirate.

For over 38 years, Al Noor and the centre's team have worked hard to provide high-quality professional training to people with special needs in Dubai.

Beginning with only 8 children when the centre first opened, Al Noor has since expanded to facilitate and enrich the lives of up to 200 children and young people, from 31 different nationalities.

In April 2007, a new all-purpose facility was donated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the U.A.E. and Ruler of Dubai, and was made possible through the benefaction of HRH Princess Haya bint Al Hussein.

Individuals who visit the centre have various physical and cognitive challenges - such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Autism - and the facility is specially designed to cater to their needs.

The programme at Al Noor

Al Noor follows a holistic programme addressing all domains of development through a Trans disciplinary assessment and intervention approach, all delivered at an ISO certified standard.

In addition to teaching, the level of development is enhanced with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Applied Behavior therapy (ABA), Psychological Services, Sports, Swimming and Music.

Al Noor also prides itself on an exceptionally effective Work Placement unit that trains its students with a capability for open employment, integrating them into mainstream society post-education.

Parent and Child Training programme (PACT)

The centre runs a Parent and Child Training programme (PACT), an intensive, participative parental empowerment programme.

Meant for parents of children with autism, this programme is implemented following the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. It provides hands-on learning opportunities and is based on the belief that parents are in the best position to help their children to communicate and interact more successfully.

Al Noor also takes pride in a dedicated Assistive Technology team & Advanced Seating Clinic that assesses, identifies and applies appropriate technology to help them overcome their physical and cognitive challenges.

Shop at Smiles 'n' Stuff

A particular star of Al Noor’s fundraising achievements is the center’s very own branded retail outlet - Smiles ‘n’ Stuff which helps to raise awareness and funds for the training Centre.

The goal of Al Noor’s Vocational Training unit is to make children skilled and productive members of the community and training is offered in wood design technology, printing technology, fashion technology, and bakery units.

How you can get involved

If you'd like to volunteer your time and help to the center, Al Noor offer a Volunteer Interaction Programme, which is open to anyone over the age of 16 years old.

No specific qualifications are required – just commitment. All prospective volunteers must attend an orientation session at the centre. This includes a presentation to give information about the school, followed by a guided tour, where you will see the classrooms and other units in action and meet some of their staff and students. The orientation tours take place every other Monday during term time.
