The decision was made to ensure a safe and decent environment for workers.
In an effort to safeguard labour workers' health and safety this summer, Bahrain’s Labour and Social Development Ministry have announced a two-month work ban, starting July 2020 from midday to 4pm.
Supervisions have been put in place to ensure the implementation of these restrictions are carried out for July and August.
The annual ban aims to ensure workers' safety against heat exhaustion, sunstroke and summer-related diseases, as well as to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
In support of this movement, the Labour Ministry in Bahrain has launched an awareness campaign to ensure employers and workers to comply with the provisions.
In a statement made by the Labour and Social Development Minister, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Bahrain is a leader who ensures a secure and safe work environment for workers, and declared that 98 per cent of private sector companies had complied with the ban in previous years, which “proves the employers’ commitment to ensuring a safe and decent work environment for employees.”
If companies are caught violating these requirements, they could face jail term for up to three months, and/or a BD 500 - BD 1,000 fine.
