New Changes to Abu Dhabi's Border Entry Rules From February 1

Those who do not take the mandatory Covid tests will be liable to fines.

On Saturday the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Committee announced new updates to the capital's entry rules, in a bid to enhance precautionary measures to contain Covid-19 and its spread.

Effective from Monday, February 1, the new updates include changes to mandatory testing and penalties.

Previously, residents and Emiratis were required to present a negative PCR or DPI test within 48 hours of the result. So what's new?

To now enter and stay in Abu Dhabi, the requirements will vary depending on the type of Covid test you take.

For PCR nasal swab tests

According to the latest update, only a negative PCR test will require the 48-hour window. Anyone staying in Abu Dhabi for four or more days must take a second PCR test, then another additional PCR test on day eight for those staying eight days or more.

The day you arrive in the capital will be counted as day one.

For DPI tests

For those taking a DPI test to enter Abu Dhabi, starting February 1st you must present a negative test within 24 hours of the result rather than the previous 48 hours.

A PCR test must then be taken on day three for those staying in the capital for 48 hours or more, with an additional test required on day seven for those staying seven days or more.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office also tweeted that a DPI test cannot be used to enter Abu Dhabi consecutive times.

The day of arrival into Abu Dhabi will also be counted as day one.

Who is excluded from presenting Covid tests?

The new entry procedures apply to all UAE residents and Emirati citizens. However, if you participated in the national vaccination programme or you volunteer in the vaccine clinical trials, you are exempt from showing a negative Coronavirus test.
