Although it most likely won't happen to you every day, your car breaking down in the middle of a busy highway is one scenario that can be worrisome (depending on how experienced of a driver you are).
Vehicles being what they are, they can break down anywhere at any given time. Luckily, the Integrated Transport Center (ITC) of Abu Dhabi offers a convenient service to help assist drivers when their car breaks down. The best thing about it? It's free!
In case your vehicle breaks down while you're driving on any of Abu Dhabi's highways, simply do any one of the following:
- Call ITC on 800 88888
- Or, request a service using the DARBI app, available on Android/Google Play and App Store
ITC will then send you a Road Service Patrol to help you free of charge.

What to do if your vehicle breaks down while in Abu Dhabi
Here are some general guidelines to follow if your vehicle breaks down while you're driving in Abu Dhabi.
1. Pull off the road
Try to pull off the road as safely and quickly as possible, and away from moving traffic. Don't forget to signal.
If you're unable to pull off the road, turn on your hazard lights.
2. Take note of where you are
When calling for assistance, it would be very helpful to take note of your location. Look for road signs, major exits, landmarks such as restaurants or offices. Do you remember the name of the last exit you took or the road you're in?
3. Assess your car's operating problem
From your seat, check your vehicle for any unusual noises or responses, or if there's any steam/smoke.
If you need to get out of your car to assess what's going on, do so carefully, especially if it's nighttime or during bad weather (rain, fog). Watch out for any oncoming traffic and try to avoid standing directly in front or behind the car as you may risk being struck by drivers who cannot see you.
4. Alert other drivers
Make your car visible in order to alert other drivers, including turning on your hazard lights (at night or in bad weather) or raising your vehicle's hood.
5. Call ITC's roadside assistance
Contact ITC on 800 88888 or request a service using the DARBI app. You will be asked questions, such as your location, the nature of your problem and description of your car.
